Regensburggehört zu den ältesten, schon in römischer Zeit gegründeten Städten Deutschlands. Nach glanzvollen Jahren als Handelszentrum im Mittelalter folgte die Zeit als Sitz des immerwährenden Reichstags von 1663 bis 1803. Danach war es eine recht unbedeutende bayerische Provinzstadt, weshalb sie zum einen nicht im 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert renoviert wurde. Zum anderen blieb sie im 2. Weltkrieg weitestgehend unzerstört, da es keine nennenswerte Industrie gab. Heute in der Liste des Weltkulturerbes ist sie ein touristischer Magnet. Fotos Donauradweg is one of the oldest towns in Germany which was founded by the Romans. After prosperous years in the middle ages as a trading town it became the permanent seat of the Imperial Diet (the "Parliament" of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation) in 1663 until the Empire collapsed. In the 19th and early 20th century Regensburg was a provincial Bavarian town without any major industries. That was the reason why it was hardly bombed during the war and the entire old town remained unchanged.
